University Women of Flagler (UWF) Interest Groups provide members an opportunity to participate in a variety of social activities and fundraising projects. A donation of $5.00 is collected for the Scholarship Fund from each person attending an Interest Group Event. The WAVE will list the Events for the month.
Who to contact, the meeting specifics, date and time of each Interest Group event is listed in the Events menu. If you are interested in joining an Interest Group, please contact the group’s main contact.
Interest Groups Bookminders– Is a group of UWF members that meets on the second Monday of each month at 1PM to discuss books from a variety of genres. Each month, a member hosts the meeting at her home and begins the discussion. These meetings are interesting, yet rather informal in nature. Additional members are always welcome. Contact Jane Mealy.
Gourmet Gals – Once a month a group of UWF members will meet for a specific event (ex., tour of Whitney Laboratory, Ravine Gardens) and lunch at a restaurant. All members are always welcome. Contact Jane Mealy.
Lunch Bunch – Is a group of UWF members that meets on the third Friday of each month at the home of one of the group Members for a casual meal prepared by the hostess and lots of congenial conversation. This is the perfect way to experience new recipes, tantalize your taste buds and make new friends. All members are always welcome. Contact Edda Steinmeier.
Travel - For those interested in taking local or not so local trips, contact Donna Daly-Boggs.
Play Girls Theater – UWF members attend a selected play together which is preceded by a meal at a prearranged restaurant. Tickets for the play are purchased in advance, with checks payable to the main contact. Guests are welcome to attend.
Seeking Insights for Solutions (SIS) As we in UWF are women who value knowledge and education, we formed this group to study and understand the issue of race and equality in the U.S. This will be our topic for the foreseeable future. We are in the process of doing cross-racial interviews in order to better understand how our differing “races” have impacted and continue to impact our lives personally. We are also researching four areas: Economy/Employment, Education, Housing, Health and Criminal Justice in terms of race and equality. We plan to put together a panel presentation to share our findings. We are meeting via Zoom. We will donate $10 each to the scholarship fund. Contact Trish Le Net.
Fundraisers The UWF organization plans several fundraisers throughout the year. They have included Fashion & Luncheon Shows, a Day of Games, an Afternoon Tea, Murder Mystery dinners, Jazz Music and tapas, and presentations of “Late Nite Catechism”. Other fundraisers have included raffles and door prizes at these events, Share & Share raffles at our monthly membership meetings, Chinese auctions and silent auctions. Donations from individuals and contributions from the Interest Groups also support our Scholarship Fund. See the Events menu for the latest information.
