Scholarships for College

University Women of Flagler (UWF) awards scholarships annually.

How do I apply (or reapply) for a scholarship?
High school seniors should contact their Guidance Counselor. Past year recipients will be contacted by the Scholarship Co-chairs about re-applying. 
Application Deadline:  January 2025.
 
Purpose of the Scholarship:
To enable and encourage outstanding female high school students to pursue a college degree.
 
Type of Scholarship:
An award based on the student’s academic standing and enrollment in an accredited college or university.
 
Criteria for Scholarship:
1. Be a female and a resident of Flagler County for at least one year. 
2. May not be a relative of a UWF member. 
3. Be a graduating senior of an accredited high school. 
4. Complete the application process through the Flagler Education Foundation 
platform to include the following: 
a. A current  transcript of credits indicating a minimum high 
school average of B or a GPA of 3.0, and SAT/ACT scores. 
b. Two letters of recommendation: one personal (an adult but not 
a relative) and one professional (teachers, religious or 
community leaders, school administrators, etc.) 
c. An essay of between 500-750 words that addresses the following: 
i. Educational/career goals 
ii. Present accomplishments (special  awards, honors,  etc.) 
iii. Employment experiences 
iv. Involvement/participation in school and community 
activities 
v. Leadership roles in school, the community, and/or work 
experience 
vi. An explanation of why the student is applying for this 
particular scholarship (include any financial concerns). 
vii. OPTIONAL paragraph: any extraordinary circumstances the
applicant might wish to share; i.e., family history, financial 
concerns, personal circumstances, etc. 
viii. Directions will encourage students to write this as an 
essay and not just as a list of items. Consideration will 
be given to writing skills. 
5. Pell grant applicants will be given preferential consideration.
6. Provide proof of acceptance to an accredited college or university when
available.

Assessment of Application for Scholarships
Applications are assessed on a 100-point scale as follows:
1. Essay (50 points)
a. Educational/career goals
b. Present accomplishments (special awards, honors, etc.)
c. Employment experiences
d. Involvement/participation in school and community activities
e. Leadership roles in school, the community, and/or work
experience
f. An explanation of why the student is applying for this particular
scholarship (include any financial concerns).
g. OPTIONAL paragraph: Any extraordinary circumstances the
applicant might wish to share, i.e., family history, financial
concerns, personal circumstances, etc.
h. Strong writing skills.
i. Overall evaluator impression

2. Recommendations (20 points)
a. Who wrote the recommendations?
b. What was said in the recommendations?

3. Transcript Information (30 points)
a. Cumulative grade point: district/state
b. Class rank
c. Classes taken: standard, honors, AP, IB, Cambridge, Dual
Enrollment
d. SAT/ACT score
e. Special Diploma expected: AA, IB Diploma, Cambridge Diploma
 
Scholarship Award:
          1.  At least $500 per year. 
          2. The Scholarship Committee will conduct in-person interviews
               with scholarship recipient candidates as part of the selection process.
          3.  Scholarship award winners from the current year will be honored guest at the May luncheon meeting
                (second Saturday), at which their attendance is required. 
           4. All scholarship checks will be made out to the recipients' college or university upon receipt of proof of
               awardees' acceptance. 
Criteria for Renewal of the Scholarship:
  1. Scholarship recipient may re-apply
  2. Continued enrollment at an accredited college or university
  3. Overall grade point continues at 3.0 or higher
  4. Full-time status
  5. Good citizen
  6. Future scholarships are dependent upon availability of funds
  7. Inform UWF Scholarship Committee of your intentions by contacting the UWF Scholarship Committee chairperson. 
 
Miscellaneous:
1.     The selection committee will consist of current members of the Scholarship
       Committee.
2.     The Scholarship Committee will review all complete applications and make its
        selections in a timely manner.
3.     If there are any questions, call the Vice President for Scholarships.
